WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A PHOTOGRAPHER? I have always been drawn to visual art since my youth days, whether it's drawing, painting, movies, sculpture, architecture etc. I stumbled into photography in my late twenties and found it to be the perfect medium for my passion.
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR PATH TO GET THERE. My wife bought me a DSLR back in early 2000, I started doing nature and portraits photography as a hobby. Friends and family introduced me to weddings and engagements, doing it part time while working as a chef for a few years and went full time in 2014. I haven't looked back ever since.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? Bright, natural, vibrant and romantic storytelling. Combination of fine art and photojournalistic with a strong influence in film.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WEDDINGS? All the happiness that surrounds them and the celebration of love not just between two individuals but also between friends and families.
SHARE YOUR FAVOURITE IMAGE WITH US AND TELL US WHY. Too many to choose from, but in general they always shot with film.
CAN YOU RECALL YOUR FAVOURITE WEDDING EXPERIENCE? One of my bride's dad was in the military as a photographer during the war. We talked about cameras, photography and his experiences throughout the wedding day. At one point, he took a photo of me using his 3d camera, I still have the slides he sent me on my work desk.
ASIDE FROM FAMILY & FRIENDS, THREE THINGS YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT? Asian food, film camera, coffee.
WHERE WOULD WE FIND YOU ON A SUNDAY MORNING? Typically getting ready for a wedding. Non wedding Sundays, just relax at home, cooking or a day trip with my wife.
HOW WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR IDEAL DAY OFF? Morning Dim Sum, cook nice dinner and binging tv shows.
A big thank you to Northern California wedding photographer DITTO DIANTO for sharing this stunning shoot with us! Based in both Northern California and Bali, Indonesia, Ditto worked as a chef in different parts of the world before he found his passion for photography and now calls the San Francisco Bay Area home. He shares with us, "I am a hybrid photographer (digital & film). My photography is often described as romantic, bright, vibrant and natural that lends itself from my love of film look. My approach is a mix of photojournalism and fine art. When I'm not behind the camera or editing the latest wedding, you can find me spending time with my wife and our two tabbies, cooking, gardening or watching our local team on tv."
