DANELLE BOHANE never disappoints. I really had to control myself to limit the length of this post! Her portraits of couples are always so incredibly stunning and Nikki & Danni’s images from their Adelaide wedding are no exception. These two first met at the tender ages of 16 and 18 when they were both working in a Pretzel bar ééò where they wore bright yellow tops, bright blue hats and aprons with pretzels on them! Exactly what you envision wearing when you meet your future spouse! But they saw through the uniform, became best friends and eventually started dating.
The bride’s dream venue was a farm with animals and a reception held in a barn, and Adelaide’s GLEN EWIN ESTATE had both beautiful grounds and the aforementioned barn so it ticked all the boxes. Inspired by dreamy vintage tones, pastel colours and mismatched bridesmaids their vision came to life with some pretty florals by one of our favourite Aussie florists POPPIES FLOWERS, and some gorgeous blush bridesmaids dresses.
TELL US ABOUT FINDING YOUR WEDDING DRESS: I hated 98% of all the dresses I had seen. I knew I wanted something that was ‘me’. Casual, a little different and vintagy. I had been following Joanne Altham on instagram for a long time, and knew of her through mutual friends. I knew she lived in Melbourne, but I wanted to just send her an email and see if making a dress was an option at all. Turns out she had moved to Adelaide and we started our planning. I 100% trusted Joanne because I knew she liked the same style as me, she loved beautiful fabrics and was so talented. She ended up making me an incredible dress. We got lots of layers of tulle, some with a dull peach colour and others an off white. You cannot really tell in the pictures but the bits of peach were so cute. She hand sewed the beading on. It was so intricate and beautiful.
ANY DIY ELEMENTS? The flowers we did ourselves except for my bouquet and head piece, the signs, hand written notes for every guest, animal place settings, world map paper cranes. We basically did everything ourselves.
DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING FLOWERS: Poppies Flowers in Adelaide is my favourite florist. I trusted her 100%. All I told her was I wanted billy buttons, some peonies and pastel pinks etc. And she created an incredible bouquet. And the head piece was just amazing as well. The rest of the flowers we got from a flower market and made up the bridesmaids bouquets and put together lots and lots of jars with different flowers in them for around the ceremony and in the reception.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROPOSAL: We were holidaying in Bali. Our flight got delayed, so we got in after dark. We were unpacking our bags in the hotel room an
d Danny was getting really weird. Pacing the room and not really talking. I asked him what was wrong and he just blurted out “just go to the toilet alreadyééò. He was waiting for me to go to the toilet so he could get the room ready. I went to the bathroom and when I came out he had put rose petals all over the bed. He then gave me a book. It was a little book made just for me with a questionnaire in it. Each page had questions or tasks and if I got them correct then I got a prize. The last prize was a gorgeous engagement ring on the beach.
FAVOURITE DETAIL OF THE DAY: Wooden stumps topped with flowers. Hand written notes to every guest. All individual.
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT? The ceremony. It was so personal and so many people were bawling their eyes out including both of us. We wrote really heart felt vows to each other. It was such a special time.
