Today we're chatting with United Kingdom wedding photographer TAMMY SHUN who also works in the Hong Kong market. Her goal is to freeze the candid moments on the biggest day of your life, and turn them into lifetime memories! She tells us, "When clients say “It’s like experiencing the whole wedding again when going through your images”, that is always the best compliment! Every couple deserves their dream wedding. If I could join your journey of creating one, it would be such an honour."

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A PHOTOGRAPHER? Becoming a photographer was just something that felt right for me, almost instinctual. It goes back to my childhood, surrounded by albums filled with actual photographs—memories frozen in time. I recall I'd spend hours flipping through those albums, mesmerised by the images of myself as a baby, while my grandparents shared the stories behind each snapshot. It was through these experiences that I developed a deep appreciation for the power of photography to preserve memories and freeze fleeting moments. From then on, my love for photography only grew stronger.

As a teenager, I always had a camera with me, during family travels, friends' gatherings, or even at school. Photography has since become my way of expressing myself and exploring the world around me. I have been very much drawn to the beauty of light and shadow, the richness of colours, and the limitless creativity photography allowed.

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR PATH TO GET THERE. Like I said, my love for photography started at a young age, but turning this passion into a career was never part of the plan. It was not until my university years, when platforms like Instagram started booming, that I found myself venturing further into the realm of photography. Joining photo walks and sharing my work online led to unexpected opportunities. My work caught the attention of a friend of friends, leading to requests to photograph special occasions like engagements, that was my accidental entry into the industry. Embracing this unexpected path, I allowed my passion for photography to guide me forward into a career I never imagined.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? I would describe my photography style as a fusion of timeless elegance and contemporary flair, blending fashion-forward aesthetics with a romantic sensibility. While I embrace the ethereal, intimate moments characteristic of weddings, I also incorporate elements of boldness and sophistication inspired by editorial fashion photography. I want to create images that capture the essence of love and celebration while also pushing creative boundaries and embracing contemporary aesthetics.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WEDDINGS? What I love most about weddings is how they bring together the most exquisite elements in one spectacular event. It's not just about the profound emotions and love shared between the couple, but also the sheer beauty and splendour that surrounds them. From breathtaking venues adorned with lavish décor to meticulously arranged floral arrangements and every intricate detail in between, weddings are a showcase of elegance and charm.

SHARE YOUR FAVOURITE IMAGE WITH US AND TELL US WHY: This is such a spontaneous one and melts my heart every time when I look at it. There's no fancy setting, just a random road, everything is so authentic.

CAN YOU RECALL YOUR FAVOURITE WEDDING EXPERIENCE? It's a hard one! I have to be honest and tell you I could not pick one. Each holds a special corner in my heart, filled with unique moments. Sometimes it could be an emotional speech that brought tears to my eyes, sometimes it could be the funniest dance floor that made me want to dance along.

ASIDE FROM FAMILY & FRIENDS, THREE THINGS YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT? My camera, my phone and my passport hahaha!

WHERE WOULD WE FIND YOU ON A SUNDAY MORNING? My little coffee corner at home.

HOW WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR IDEAL DAY OFF? If we say ideal, perhaps at a resort in a sunny and warm destination and without my macbook. Just wake up whenever I want to, have a really nice brunch, go for a little swim then explore the city a little bit, watch the sunset and go for a nice dinner. That'd be amazing!

United Kingdom wedding photographer TAMMY SHUN is a valued member of the Magnolia Rouge Vendor Collective. A destination wedding photographer based in both the UK and Hong Kong, Tammy's love for photography began at a young age. "I first started with film, then moved to digital, and now I’m doing both! Digital allows me to ensure that not a single precious moment at your wedding will be missed. And film creates those ethereal, authentic images that are irreplaceable. My approach to photography is to create something timeless, images that you could pass down to future generations." You can see more of her portfolio here.
