Under stormy skies and glowing chandeliers, Lauren and Hunter’s wedding at RED AUGUST FARM unfolded with heartfelt joy and effortless romance. Captured beautifully by Virginia-based photographer JESSICA LAPP, their day was filled with personal touches, warm candlelight, and emotional moments that made the celebration unforgettable. Set against the historic backdrop of an 1876 barn, this late summer wedding planned by LAURA ELIZABETH WEDDINGS, combined rustic elegance with intimate charm.
High School Sweethearts with a Sweet Beginning
Lauren and Hunter’s story began in high school after Lauren’s family relocated to the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Although the move was difficult at first, a few shared classes and mutual friends brought them together. Their connection deepened on a ski trip where Hunter spent the entire weekend helping Lauren learn to ski—and ended with a surprise “Prom?” written in the snow. From there, their love story blossomed, culminating in a heartfelt Christmas Eve proposal at home with Lauren’s family.

A Venue Full of Character and Charm
RED AUGUST FARM in Waynesboro, Virginia, was the first—and only—venue the couple toured. Instantly smitten, they knew it was the perfect fit. The barn, built in 1876, offered the kind of rich history and warmth they envisioned, with original wood beams, soft lighting, and statement chandeliers. The property’s sweeping views, pink-blossomed trees in spring, and cozy weekend access sealed the deal, offering the couple a place to celebrate and relax with loved ones.
A Peaceful Morning in the Bridal Suite
The morning of the wedding was surprisingly calm. Lauren spent the night before in the bridal suite with her best friend, enjoying a quiet start to her big day. The suite was beautifully equipped for hair and makeup with designated spaces and a cozy sitting area for her and her bridesmaids. With no jitters in sight, the atmosphere was relaxed and full of quiet anticipation.

My morning getting ready was very relaxing and surprisingly peaceful. I thought I would be anxious, and have the wedding jitters, but it was the complete opposite.

Effortless Elegance in Bridal Fashion
Lauren chose a timeless gown by MARTINA LIANA from AMANDA’S TOUCH, pairing its clean elegance with a stunning cathedral-length lace veil. She wore minimal jewelry—just her engagement ring, a sapphire heirloom from her grandmother, and delicate pearl drop earrings—allowing the dress and veil to truly shine. Hunter and his groomsmen wore coordinating grey suits for a monochromatic look that perfectly complemented the romantic aesthetic of the day.
Florals Inspired by a Sunset
One of Lauren’s favorite elements of the wedding was the floral design by FOXTAIL COTTAGE FLORALS. Her bouquet was a sunset-inspired dream, with white anemones, champagne roses, and touches of copper, peach, and muted blues. The warm tones echoed the golden light of early evening and brought a soft, painterly texture to every photo.

A Stormy Ceremony with a Touch of Magic
Just as guests gathered for the ceremony, a thunderstorm rolled in—forcing a last-minute move indoors. Though they had planned to wed outside in front of the venue’s stone fireplace, the indoor setting inside the barn proved equally romantic. With string lights, flickering candles, and the hum of rain on the roof, it was an emotional and unforgettable ceremony. Lauren’s cathedral veil may have snagged on the wooden floors, but she made it down the aisle through happy tears and laughter.
A Relaxed Cocktail Hour and Thoughtful Details
Cocktail hour took place just outside the barn under a covered patio, strung with glowing lights. Guests were treated to signature cocktails, wine, and beer alongside a delicious array of appetizers—charcuterie boards, crostini, and meatballs served by HANK’S GRILLE AND CATERING. Once portraits were finished, Lauren and Hunter joined the party to mingle with their guests and soak in the celebration.

The barn setting definitely made it feel a lot more intimate, and it was difficult for me to hold the tears back.

A Joy-Filled Reception with Heartfelt Speeches
The reception followed a classic timeline: introductions, first dance, dinner, speeches, and lots of dancing. One highlight was a rare emotional toast from Hunter’s identical twin and best man—a moment so heartfelt it ended with a spontaneous brotherly hug. The music, provided by BLUE RIDGE ENTERTAINMENT, kept the dance floor full all night long. A memorable “couples dance” to “Tennessee Whiskey” transitioned into an upbeat number that had everyone—from grandparents to friends—on their feet. A spontaneous “dougie-off” sealed the night’s joyful, lighthearted energy.
A Magical End to the Perfect Day
Lauren and Hunter ended their evening with a quiet private dance under the moonlight before exiting through a sparkler send-off. The love, support, and celebration that surrounded them made for a wedding full of unforgettable memories—captured with beauty and heart by JESSICA LAPP.
