When Kelsey and Henry began planning their wedding at SEA ISLAND, they wanted every element to feel intentional and deeply personal. Captured beautifully by Magnolia Rouge Vendor DEVOSS PHOTOGRAPHY and planned by Katrina Emanuel of MARIÉE AMI their celebration balanced sophisticated design with heartfelt storytelling. What began as a chance meeting at a local bar on St. Simons Island in 2020 evolved into a wedding weekend that reflected not only their relationship, but also the people, passions, and memories that shaped them.
Their journey started during the height of the pandemic when they spotted one another across a crowded room at Bubba’s. The tallest guy in the room met the tallest girl, and after discovering mutual friends and unexpected connections, they quickly became inseparable. Years later, Henry proposed at Christ Church on St. Simons Island before a New Year’s Eve oyster roast surrounded by family and friends, setting the stage for a wedding celebration equally rich in meaning.

Bringing Aviation Dreams to Life
One of the most distinctive elements of the wedding came from Henry’s lifelong love of aviation. Kelsey knew early in the planning process that she wanted to incorporate his passion in a meaningful way. Together, they embraced the idea of hosting their reception inside an airplane hangar, transforming the industrial setting into something elegant, inviting, and entirely unique.
The aviation theme extended throughout the stationery, with custom boarding pass invitations and the playful “Mabbett Flight 1031” concept woven into the details. A yellow airplane suspended above the dance floor became the inspiration for many of the design choices, creating a cohesive thread that tied the entire celebration together.
An Intimate Ceremony Filled with Emotion
While the reception would welcome a larger gathering, Kelsey and Henry chose to keep their ceremony intimate, inviting only immediate family to witness their vows at the beautiful Cloister Chapel. The chapel’s soaring stained glass windows and timeless architecture provided all the beauty they needed.
The ceremony carried special significance as the couple found meaningful ways to honour Kelsey’s late father. Music had always connected them, so a bagpiper played one of his favourite songs as Kelsey approached the chapel. Her brother escorted her inside, while a family friend who had shared a long friendship with her father officiated the ceremony. The result was an emotional and deeply moving experience that ensured his presence was felt throughout the day.

Transforming the Hangar
Following a relaxed morning at The Lodge at SEA ISLAND with their wedding party, guests arrived at what appeared to be an ordinary airplane hangar. That first impression quickly disappeared the moment they stepped inside. Fully draped and overlooking the runway, the transformed space revealed thoughtful design at every turn.
Working with FUNK & FLEUR FLORAL DESIGN, Kelsey incorporated soft florals accented with touches of yellow to complement the suspended airplane overhead. Abundant installations framed the stage and bar areas, while a mix of high and low arrangements created movement throughout the room. Live trees softened the expansive space, helping turn the hangar into an intimate and welcoming environment.

Rather than following a traditional reception format, Kelsey and Henry envisioned an elevated cocktail party where guests could move freely, mingle, and enjoy the evening at their own pace.

A Celebration Like No Other
Rather than following a traditional reception format, Kelsey and Henry envisioned an elevated cocktail party where guests could move freely, mingle, and enjoy the evening at their own pace. Food stations, live music, and carefully curated experiences encouraged interaction throughout the night.
As the sun began to set, guests gathered near the hangar windows for one of the day’s most unforgettable moments. To everyone’s surprise, the newlyweds arrived by helicopter, touching down on the runway before making their grand entrance into the celebration. It was a cinematic moment that perfectly reflected the couple’s adventurous spirit and the aviation theme woven throughout the wedding.

Honouring Family and Creating Memories
Perhaps the most touching aspect of the celebration was the way Kelsey honoured her father, Dave. The couple intentionally chose Halloween, which would have been his 63rd birthday, as their wedding date. Throughout the evening, tributes to him appeared in thoughtful and often joyful ways.
Late in the reception, guests discovered “Dave’s Trick-or-Treat Station,” hidden behind draped curtains. Inside, they found candy, snacks, drinks, custom gorilla bags with pink tutus, and trucker hats featuring the couple’s wedding logo. The tribute referenced Dave’s beloved tradition of dressing as a gorilla in a pink tutu while handing out candy to hundreds of trick-or-treaters each Halloween. It was a heartfelt surprise that left many guests emotional before they returned to the dance floor for one final celebration.
With music from STEELTOE STILETTO keeping the energy high, glow wands lighting up the send-off, and a final toast back at the very bar where they first met, Kelsey and Henry’s wedding weekend came full circle.
