To say I was thrilled to feature this stunning anniversary shoot of Sara & Andy’s in Issue 7 of MAGNOLIA ROUGE MAGAZINE, is a bit of an understatement!! Not only is the photography of Katie from LAURA CATHERINE PHOTOGRAPHY completely inspiring, but it also features the amazing calligraphy of SIGNORA E MARE whose work I’ve long admired. Note that beautiful threaded script in the hair ééò genius idea!! In fact this shoot is the combined effort of a whole host of superstar talents, including florals by WITHOUT WAX, KATY, styling by LINDSEY ZAMORA and hair & make-up by JEN LEWIS. Sara & Andy run one of my favourite blogs WEDDING SPARROW and they took time out of their busy lives to celebrate their anniversary with this shoot. Sara also imparts some wise words of advice belowééò
ééòRunning a wedding blog and styling weddings and shoots means I know what I like and am confident in the wedding industry, but by no means do I consider myself an expert on marriage. Andrew and I have been together for eleven years but married for just two, so although we know each other inside out, we’re still ééòwinging it’ every single day. When our friend Katie Hyatt from Signora e Mare suggested a second wedding anniversary vow renewal, it didn’t take me long to convince Andrew to celebrate by combining our love for each other with our love for film photography!
We aren’t the same people who got together 11 years ago, or even the same people who married two years ago. As we grow as a couple, we learn new things about each other, but I’m so grateful I’ve had him to share this journey with me.
Marriage is one of those things that is best lived in the present tense. You can’t go forward if you’re holding onto the past, and you can’t honour the past if you refuse to move forward. Plan for the future, yes. Remember where you’ve been, yes. But be present in the here and now. When we wait for and expect the happily ever after ending, we sometimes miss the once-upon-a-time that’s happening today.
Andrew and I are both believers in making time for each other in a good and strong marriage, but with busy jobs, finding that time to remember who we are outside of work can be tough. We loved every minute of the anniversary shoot, and will treasure this day and the time spent with amazing vendors as well as the incredible film imagery we have to take away from it forever.ééò
