Brodie & Scott's wedding was a lush, whimsical dreamland affair, set within a grove of apple trees in the orchard where the bride played as a child. Doesn't that sound – and look – like the most idyllic setting ever? Brodie tells us, "I’ve always known I would get married on this property, where my parents were wed on the front lawn 34 years ago, and where my sister married her best friend. We wanted to carry on this legacy, but I had always dreamed of being married among the gnarled, sweet smelling apple trees that surround the house. We couldn’t have chosen a better time: the trees and surrounding grapevines were heavy with fruit, but the warmth and lushness of summer still hung in the air.

I am a bookworm and a romantic, so I wanted to incorporate pieces of my most beloved novels and films into our wedding. I chose twenty of my favorite quotes on the subject of love from the likes of Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, Tolkien, Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Woody Allen and Wes Anderson. Our amazing calligrapher, Aubriana Kasper, beautifully scripted the words onto cream cardstock, which we placed in vintage gold frames. Literature also inspired the wedding’s ambience and décor – the night was a 1920s Gatsby soiree uprooted into the magical realm of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Tree trunks and branches were wrapped with lights, and vintage furniture brought the elegant indoors to our dreamy outdoor world, which was filled with the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen – spilling out of baskets, gently resting in brass goblets, and dripping from gorgeous centrepieces.

The ceremony was held at sunset in a clearing that looked out onto Mount St. Helena and an electric pink-tinged sky. The aisle was scattered in fresh rose petals, and the incredible Max Gill draped our arch in a lavish bower of greenery and cream roses. I wanted my bouquet to live forever – a cascading masterpiece of dripping vines and cream and blush roses. Scott and I had spent a lot of time writing our own vows, so sharing them with each other, our friends and family was one of the most touching and powerful moments of our lives.

Big thanks to EDYTA SZYSZLO for sending this beautiful wedding our way – which also featured in Issue 13 of MAGNOLIA ROUGE MAGAZINE.
