“Incorporating the concept of Wabi-Sabi into this shoot meant celebrating the beauty of asymmetry, accepting that things are transient and imperfect, welcoming nature to shape and form our world.” These words from Jacob of BRUMLEY & WELLS who created the Reckless North workshop set the tone for these gorgeous images below captured by attendee KYLEE YEE. With stunning gowns from New York based designers SAMUELLE COUTURE and LEANNE MARSHALL they were set against Iceland’s rugged landscapes and black sand beaches. Incredibly innovative paper goods and collateral designed by THE WELLS MAKERY reflected the concept perfectly.
Kylee tells us, “I was fortunate enough to travel to Iceland for the BRUMLEY & WELLS workshop over the summer. Hosted by Jacob who guided us so openly through the success of his business, the way he navigates a shoot, the ins and outs of film photography, as well as his film lab and post production process – I was so grateful for all the insight that Jacob extended to us and touched by his generosity, talent, and passion for his craft.
We were lucky to have a few styled shoots set up for us by Annie from THE WELLS MAKERY who has an insane creative ability to pull together a uniquely styled and cohesively beautiful story. Using the concept of ‘Wabi Sabi’ as their inspiration – the theme paid tribute to the idea of finding beauty in imperfection. As the workshop progressed, each scene that was put together by The BRUMLEY & WELLS workshop team just got better and better and we were spoiled with the opportunity to capture such gorgeous imagery among the vast and wonderful landscapes of Iceland.”
