It's always a treat when we get to feature the ethereal work of Sydney wedding photographer AMELIA SOEGIJONO. This shoot was created as part of the Élan Vital Workshop in Taipei this year and was designed with the intention of portraying one’s connection to inner self and the subtle emotions that we often experience but are rarely documented.
Amelia and stylist OLEA & FIG share with us, "The boudoir shoot focuses on drawing from the anticipation and bliss during the morning of her wedding day. We not only tried to capture the physical female beauty, but we dived a little deeper and attempted to illustrate the depth of human feelings through the story of a woman who is about to marry the love of her life. As she gracefully writes the letter to her future husband and twirls out of joy, her happiness, the spark of excitement, and the bit of butterflies in her stomach were all captured candidly.
The second part was once again designed to depict the subtle yet precious human emotions that we all go through, particularly about transformation through the story of a dancer. The dancer walked us through her journey prior to the shoot. She told me about how dancing has shaped her identity, gifted her tremendous resilience, and accompanied her through ups and downs in life. We wanted to portray the connection between a dancer and her ballet shoes, and that slight uncertainty and nervousness she still experiences before every big performance, no matter how many times she has performed. But as always, as she gets ready, she regains her confidence, focus, and strength, and put on an impeccable performance.
We intentionally picked the bright and refreshing warm colours for these two stories to showcase how serenity and elegance can be expressed also with vibrant telling the tales of female grace and strength.
During the workshop, we guided the students to capture subtle details to add to the depth of the story, like the fleeting fabric of the beautiful CAROL HANNAH Dress, the little hand gestures, the blown out candles, the gigantic movement of the dress, the worn out ballet shoes. They all played their part to tell the story of this woman. We also used plain, simple backdrops to allow the hero of the stories to stand out. We hope this workshop will inspire intentional and thoughtful simplicity, to embrace imperfections and the strength and beauty that emanates from that."
