We’re starting off the week with a beautiful spring garden wedding at the gorgeous Ataahua Gardens in the Bay of Plenty by Jill Andrews. Sometimes it’s their respective differences that makes a couple work, as is the case for Joline and Scott as the gorgeous bride outlines below.
ééòWe wanted our wedding to feel personal to us and reflect our personalities and one of the first things people notice about us is the large height difference (Joline 5’2″ Scott 6’6″) so I am well known for my collection of heels. The other thing that is quite unique to us is our backgrounds, Scott grew up on a farm in a small town and is now managing a Dairy Farm, where as I was raised in the city and work as an Interior Architect, so from the outside we do seem like the most unlikely of couples! But these differences created what turned out to be a real feature of the wedding- the gumboot and heel logo.
I designed our Wedding invites which is when I came up with the gumboot and heel idea and so the colours and ‘theme’ for the rest of the wedding was based around this initial idea. I designed all the place settings which were a pink high heel for the ladies and a mint coloured gumboot for the men which were laser cut from thin ply and arranged them on top of cute tree rounds which Scott’s Dad cut up for us ééò one for each of the hundred guests.ééò
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: After shopping around and not being able to find the perfect gown I decided to meet up with Nicky from White Silk Bridal Couture because she had made a beautiful gown for one of my best friends and she helped me to come up with my dream Wedding Dress. The gowns bodice is made up of alternating panels of pleated silk and beaded lace with trim detailing that follows the edges of the panels accentuating the sweeping curves of the dress. The skirt is made from flowing white georgette with a 1.5m train. Aside from the beautiful detailing of the dress I think my favourite part is the sheer lace and then open back of the dress. I just felt so beautiful all day in my dress, it really made my wedding dreams come true.
What advise would you give out to a couple planning their wedding? Be as organised as possible before hand so that you can just sit back and relax (as much as possible!) on the day- it’s going to be one of the most memorable days of your life so try to make time for special moments with the people you love and with your husband/wife because at the end of the day it’s people that really matter.
Most memorable moment? My favourite moment would have to be when Scott said his vows to me- the emotion and meaning behind his words and his beautiful kind heart just overwhelmed me and I couldn’t help crying!
