Inspired by the historical wedding venue, ELMORE COURT, and the medieval era in which it was founded, this editorial by THERESA FUREY pays particular homage to its floral history. When the grounds were first granted to the Guise family, the rent was set at “one clove of gillyflower” each year. In an era in which keeping the promise of paying with flowers was very common, the Gillyflower was as important as the rose and very much used. They were carried close to the face to counteract the foul stench of the medieval streets, or along with cloves and spices in pomanders, worn around the neck. Several recipes from medieval times contain Gillyflowers, but most important of all is the recipe for love, as a symbol of their promise. Newly engaged or wed couples drank Gillyflower wine in celebration of their union. Stylist Elisabeth from A VERY BELOVED WEDDING put together a beautiful shoot to honour the story. Featuring a gown from VERINAS and absolutely stunning florals by A VERY BELOVED BLOOM it transports us back to a bygone era. This shoot also ran in Issue 14 of the MAGAZINE.
