A Timeless and Classic Wedding at Black Butte Ranch

Austin and Hayley’s love story began at the University of Oregon, where they met on the way to Autzen Stadium for a football game. Though they had grown up just five minutes apart, their paths had never crossed until college. Bonding over mutual friends, their connection was instant, and as Hayley puts it—“the rest is history.” Nestled in the serene mountains of Central Oregon, their wedding at BLACK BUTTE RANCH was a breathtaking celebration. Although wildfires across Oregon painted the skies with a pink-hued haze, the day unfolded beautifully, with nature adding a unique ambiance to their love story which was all exquisitely captured by JANET LIN PHOTOGRAPHY.

With planning & design by THE INDIGO BRIDE, every detail of Hayley & Austin’s day was executed with incredible forethought and cohesiveness. Floral design by BRIER & IVY was paramount in making each portion of the day feel like an extension of the next, with the unique floral elements that felt both organic and lush following guests from the ceremony, to cocktail hour, to the reception. 

The couple exchanged emotional private vows during their first look, creating a deeply personal moment amid the most romantic and peaceful surroundings. The ceremony itself was set against BLACK BUTTE RANCH’S signature backdrop of grazing horses and shimmering water, with smoke-filled skies offering a uniquely tranquil elegance.

The cocktail hour delighted guests with a custom bar stationed on the patio, where they enjoyed live music by Olivia Harms and passed hors d’oeuvres while taking in the majestic scenes of mountains in the background and horses grazing in the nearby pasture. Every detail of the day reflected Hayley and Austin’s romantic yet relaxed style, blending natural beauty with heartfelt emotion.

After seven years together, Austin planned the perfect proposal while traveling through Greece for his cousin’s wedding. Following the celebration, the two made their way to Loutro, a breathtaking coastal village on the southern shores of Crete, only accessible by boat. With its iconic white-washed architecture and dazzling views of the Mediterranean, it set the scene for a truly unforgettable moment. As the sun dipped below the horizon, Austin got down on one knee atop a cliff overlooking the sea, asking Hayley to be his forever. They celebrated the engagement that evening with his family, making the moment even more special.

When it came to wedding stationery, Hayley wanted something timeless and elegant, working with BESPOKEN CREATIVE to craft a simple yet stunning invitation suite. This sense of classic sophistication carried over to her wedding day look as well.

The bride spent the morning getting ready with her bridesmaids, mother, and mother-in-law, enjoying coffee, pastries, and breakfast burritos. POWDER INC BEAUTY provided hair and makeup, creating soft, natural looks that complemented the romantic aesthetic of the day.

For her bridal gown, Hayley knew she wanted something effortlessly timeless. After trying on nearly 30 dresses, she fell in love with an ANNE BARGE design that exuded classic elegance. For the reception, she opted for a completely different look—a short, lacy ZIMMERMANN dress that was both comfortable and perfect for dancing.

To make the most of their time with guests, Austin and Hayley chose to do a private first look. In an intimate and emotional moment, they saw each other for the first time before the ceremony and exchanged personal vows in private—something Hayley recalls as one of the most cherished moments of the day.

For the ceremony, the couple wanted someone deeply meaningful to officiate their wedding, choosing Austin’s uncle, Jeff. He had been a guiding presence in Austin’s life and had even been with them in Greece when they got engaged. Standing before family and friends in the beautiful gardens of Black Butte Ranch, Austin and Hayley exchanged vows in a heartfelt ceremony, filled with love and personal touches.

Immediately following the ceremony, guests were treated to a beautifully curated cocktail hour. To eliminate long lines, passed signature cocktails—including a marionberry spritz to pay homage to Oregon’s state berry—were served. The couple also arranged for live entertainment, featuring local country artist Olivia Harms. She performed a mix of covers and original songs, bringing the perfect laid-back energy to the early evening.

As guests transitioned into the reception, they were met with an elegant setting featuring lush florals by Brier & Ivy. Hayley loved the organic beauty of wildflowers, so she entrusted the team to create floral arrangements that felt whimsical and natural.

Dinner, catered by The Lodge at Black Butte Ranch, featured a delicious selection of braised beef, locally caught salmon, and chicken. The open bar kept spirits high as guests celebrated with heartfelt toasts and danced late into the night.

A particularly meaningful detail of the evening was the couple’s wedding cake. Instead of a traditional flavor, they chose funfetti—a nod to a cherished family tradition. Austin’s mother, who passed away from breast cancer when he was 10 years old, used to bake funfetti cakes for every birthday and special occasion. To honor her memory, Hayley’s sister now continues the tradition, making a funfetti cake for Austin each year. Incorporating this into their wedding was a touching tribute to a woman so important in Austin’s life.

The very next day, the newlyweds jetted off to Mallorca, Spain, for a honeymoon filled with sun-soaked beaches, rich culture, and unforgettable adventures. It was the perfect way to begin their next chapter together.
