Kayla and Henry’s story began in 2019 at an infamous, eclectic bar in Portland, Oregon — the kind of place where chance encounters and late-night conversations feel inevitable. Mutual friends had long hoped the two would meet, and it didn’t take long for those suspicions to prove correct.

Henry chose the San Juan Islands for the proposal, a place the couple had visited together many times and one that held special meaning in their relationship. His plan involved a famously challenging hike to a scenic summit — a plan Kayla initially dragged her heels about. Had she known a ring awaited her at the top, she might have picked up the pace.
