The essence of Kaylyn and BK’s wedding lay in the details, each one woven with pieces of their story. They envisioned a day that was lush and flower-forward, with a garden-like feel that truly reflected them in subtle yet meaningful ways. Set atop the Santa Monica mountains in Malibu, the couple hadn’t anticipated the full-force July heat, but despite the sweltering sun, they couldn’t have been happier. “We incorporated songs that hold a special place in our hearts, and BK’s best friend officiated the ceremony, adding a deeply personal touch. The most unforgettable moment was looking out and seeing nearly every person we cherish gathered in one place, a joyful reminder of the love surrounding us. Marrying BK was the purest happiness I’ve ever felt, a day where the heat, beauty, and shared joy fused into something unforgettable.”
Kaylyn and BK both hail from Texas—Kaylyn from Dallas and BK from Houston—and although they attended Baylor University simultaneously, they never crossed paths. After college, Kaylyn moved to New England, where much of BK’s family also resides, and even lived just blocks away from two of his cousins without realizing it. Their paths finally converged in Los Angeles in early 2020, introduced through mutual friends. Bonding over shared experiences across three states and a mutual love of music, the two began dating in 2021 and have been inseparable since..

THE PROPOSAL
BK and Kaylyn share a love for travel, and while BK is a cinephile, Kaylyn’s heart is particularly devoted to The Sound of Music, a childhood favorite that remains her go-to comfort film. In fall 2023, the couple embarked on a European trip to Italy, Austria, and London, with no hint to Kaylyn that BK had planned the ultimate surprise. After a lovely start in Italy, they arrived in Salzburg, where their second day included a serene morning hike. Kaylyn thought it was perfect, not realizing what was yet to come.
As they explored Salzburg, BK led her to Sound of Music locations, beginning with the iconic gazebo—a moment that brought Kaylyn immense joy. At the Do-Re-Mi fountain, Kaylyn told him it was the best day of her life, and he promised one last stop. They arrived at the hill where Julie Andrews sings in the film’s opening. Amidst the sweeping views, with fellow fans around, BK set up a camera, and as it clicked, he proposed. Completely shocked, Kaylyn said yes, creating a magical, unforgettable memory against a backdrop from her most treasured movie.
GETTING READY
We got ready in Calabasas at the base of the Santa Monica mountains near our wedding location. We had brunch together with our friends by the pool and exchanged letters that we wrote to each other. BK is a photographer and filmmaker, so he started capturing moments on his Super8 film camera at the reception. The moments from the morning of our wedding on film are some of my favorites and they feel like the perfect home movie.
THE FASHION
“The dress: I flew to Texas to search for a dress with my mom, sister, and aunt. I wanted something with exaggerated details in some way and also something that felt super feminine. I found a dress by Canadian designer, LEA-ANNE BELTER and fell in love with the sleeves and the feather light silk with floral details. My dress was made in Canada and made it to me all the way in in LA.
I wanted my bridesmaids to feel like themselves on our wedding day. I gave them a few color options and let them run with it. I love that each of them chose a color and a silhouette that they liked and ran with it.
BK had a specific tux in mind so we headed to Suit Supply to get his custom made. They guys there were amazing and really helped his vision come to life. He looked so good in his tuxedo.”
I had honeysuckle in my bouquet as an ode to the garden my mom cultivated in our backyard in Texas–she is a master gardener.
THE FLOWERS
“I have been a wedding florist for twelve years, so I knew I wanted a ton of flowers, but I didn’t want it to become stressful. I have been so blessed through the years to meet the most lovely and talented growers, farmers, florists, and designers. They have all become incredible friends and they took the reins to help my vision come to life. My vision was pretty simple, I just wanted it to feel like a garden on top of the mountain. I ordered flowers from some favorite vendors and friends, flew garden roses in from my favorite farm in Columbia, Alexandra Farms, and told the team to have fun. I gave them a design plan so that they could have some sort of blue print, but I really wanted it to be just a celebration of flowers and for them to have space to create leading up to the day of the wedding.
I had honeysuckle in my bouquet as an ode to the garden my mom cultivated in our backyard in Texas—she is a master gardener. I had hundred and hundreds of garden roses, because when pressed, I’ll usually say that’s my favorite. And I had a few hydrangea here and there to remind me of New England and BK’s family.”
We ate and drank well and then danced under the stars on a mountain–a girl’s dream.
THE RECEPTION
“I wanted it to feel like a dinner party and FUNDAMENTAL CATERING did such a lovely job making that happen. We did family style dining and I mentioned that I would love colorful, farmers market style food and they did such an incredible job; they went above and beyond for us! Our food was colorful and so delicious. At our cocktail hour we had mini fish tacos, bbq chicken & grits, and an artichoke and boursin fritter. Dinner was incredible. We had a family style setting with market fresh favorites. My favorites were the salmon with a citrus salsa, the arugula salad with the most colorful beets, and the wild mushroom pasta. We ate and drank well and then danced under the stars on a mountain–a girl’s dream.”
