A Classic Estate Wedding Full of Heartfelt Elegance

Kate and Matthew’s estate wedding was the perfect blend of modern elegance and heartfelt celebration. Thoughtfully designed, every detail felt intentional—an emotionally rich day wrapped in timeless beauty and elevated joy.

Captured with grace and warmth by Magnolia Rouge Vendor SAMANTHA BROOKE, Kate and Matthew’s North Carolina wedding was a true reflection of timeless beauty, heartfelt moments, and intentional simplicity. Set on the storied grounds of THE GRAYLYN ESTATE in Winston-Salem, their day unfolded like a fairytale—elevated yet personal, elegant yet entirely their own.

The couple’s love story began in the most modern of ways: a Hinge connection that turned into something enduring. Despite the distance between them—Kate in Charlotte and Matthew in Winston-Salem, busy with his surgical residency—they found their rhythm through phone calls, texts, and FaceTime. “The moment we met in person,” Kate recalls, “it all just made sense.” From that first date forward, their story was one of quiet certainty and deep connection.

From Mountain Magic to Manor Elegance

That deep sense of meaning carried into their engagement, which unfolded during a hike at Rough Ridge Trail—chaotic weather and muddy trails included. With their beloved dogs, Goose and Ben, at their sides, Matthew proposed at the mountain’s peak with a hidden photographer capturing every second. The result was a memory rooted in love, spontaneity, and a little bit of magic—just like the wedding day to come.

For the celebration, THE GRAYLYN ESTATE set the tone. A historic property originally built in 1925 by Bowman Gray, the estate’s grand architecture, sweeping gardens, and hidden nooks offered a European-style charm right in the heart of North Carolina. Kate fell in love the moment she drove by. “It’s tucked away, picture-perfect, and feels like something out of a fairytale,” she says. The couple chose to embrace the venue’s natural elegance and Old World feel with a classic, monochromatic aesthetic that would never go out of style.

The paper suite reflected this vision beautifully. Wrapped in a custom jacket featuring a watercolored rendering of THE GRAYLYN ESTATE and tied with a silk and linen bow, the letter-pressed invitations were elegant keepsakes in themselves. The back of each suite even included a sketched outline of Goose and Ben, a nod to the pups who’d been part of the proposal.

Kate’s vision for the wedding was rooted in effortlessness—something beautifully uncomplicated. “I didn’t want anything trendy or over-the-top,” she explains. “I just wanted it to feel timeless, elegant, and completely us.” That philosophy translated into every choice, from the pure white florals to the black chiffon bridesmaids dresses and classic black tuxedos worn by the groom and groomsmen.

The ceremony took place in the White Garden under a stone gazebo, with lush white blooms adorning a wooden cross and lining the aisle. Every floral detail felt intentional and romantic, enhancing the already stunning space without overwhelming it. “It felt sacred,” Kate says. “Like we were walking into something much bigger than ourselves.”

Adding to that feeling was the presence of the couple’s dear friend and officiant, Pat Taft. A former youth pastor and close friend since 2012, Pat brought heartfelt insight and deep spiritual grounding to the ceremony. With scripture from Ecclesiastes and live Christian music setting the tone, the moment centered not only on the couple’s love for each other but also on the faith that supports them. “Having her guide us through our vows made everything feel deeply personal,” Kate shares.

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a traditional cocktail hour while the couple slipped away for portraits—though they did manage to sneak back just in time for Kate’s dad’s emotional welcome speech. “It had everyone in tears,” she says. “One of those perfect moments I’ll always remember.”

The reception, a plated dinner under glowing lights, was designed with the same timeless elegance as the rest of the day. Centerpieces of white blooms created a sense of quiet luxury, while the band brought the energy to life. “They didn’t just play music—they got on the dance floor with our guests,” Kate laughs. “It felt like a real celebration, not just a formal event.”

For entertainment, the live band created an unforgettable atmosphere that had every generation dancing. Their versatility and stage presence turned the evening into a dynamic celebration, weaving between heartfelt slow songs and upbeat crowd favorites with ease. “There was just so much joy in the room,” Kate recalls.

After their fairytale celebration, the newlyweds escaped to Cabo San Lucas for a romantic minimoon—just a few days to unwind and soak in the beginning of married life. With Matthew’s busy residency schedule, it was a much-needed retreat before a longer honeymoon in Switzerland planned for later in the summer.

Looking back, Kate describes the day as “surreal in the best way.” From her grandmother’s birthstone worn as a bracelet to the thoughtful florals and meaningful music, every detail came together to create a wedding day that felt beautifully personal and deeply rooted in what matters most. A story of love, faith, and timeless style—set on the elegant grounds of one of North Carolina’s most beloved estates.
