How amazing does the New Zealand scenery look in this beautiful wedding by Bayly & Moore? It makes me want to jump in my car and hit the road for a road trip! What amazing surroundings to get married in. Janneke & Chris wanted to create a relaxed atmosphere where family and friends could gather and Poronui Lodge ééò in the middle of the North Island, just out of Taupo ééò offered the ideal setting combining their love for old world and natural beauty.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: From the outset, I planned to design my own dress. The timeless and vintage-inspired glamour -and the drop-waist of the 1920s ééò were key elements in the design. With the guidance from my fantastic dressmaker, Marilyn Jones, we achieved my dream dress.
Describe your wedding flowers: The bridal bouquet was a reinterpretation of a 1920’s vintage style combining fragrant white spray stock, Sweet William, spray roses, rosemary, and freesia with a soft train of leather fern and jasmine to compliment the delicate beading and soft fabric of the bride’s dress.
Favourite detail of the day: Of the many memorable, unusual, antique, beautifully formed, and surprising details of the day, our favourite detail was keeping the venue a surprise from our guests, which caused a bit of a stir. Personally, putting on my wedding dress and feeling amazing was also a highlight.
Chris designed and built beautiful banquet tables, which provided a big family dinner setting. It was intimate, relaxed, and simply perfect. Later in the night we toasted marshmallows over a fire, drank hot chocolate, and ate hot chips with fritesassus (mayonnaise) Dutch style!
What advice would you give you out to a couple planning their wedding? Allow yourself plenty of time to plan and to ensure that you have everything sorted. Don’t skimp on your photographer. The day will go by so quickly and the photos are the only thing you will have left. If the budget allows for a videographer, I would highly recommend it. Our photographers were able to film and photograph, which provided the added benefit of there not being many cameras about.
Good planning requires effective communication. A run-sheet detailing all the small jobs allowed us to have a relaxed and fun day.
