I don’t feature too many beach weddings on the blogééò which in some ways is a good thing as I fear I’d spend hours looking at the dreamy beach locales and get carried away day dreaming of holidays! So it’s a refreshing change up to have this beautiful Cabo wedding by Kate Holstein featuring today.
Greg & Maggie’s inspiration for their wedding was classy nautical with a fun Mexican flare due to the location. A touch of rustic chic, a sprinkling of Mexican culture and a handful of nautical touches to bring in the ocean, ensured it wasn’t your typical destination wedding.
Tell us about your proposal: Well, I am very inquisitive and hard to surprise, so during the spring of 2012, we made a bucket list of things we wanted to do during the summer. One of the items was walk around our favourite lake at sunrise before anyone else was there. On June 16th, Greg woke me up at 5:45am and said “he couldn’t sleep, let’s go walk the lake. I thought it was a little suspicious but didn’t think much of it since it was on our bucket list. As we walked around the lake he seemed to start walking slower and then right as we got to my favorite part, completely covered by trees as the sun was rising, he started talking about “feeling lucky” and then said, “would you make me the luckiest man in the world?” As I slowed to look at him confused and he stopped and got down on one knee and asked! We celebrated the rest of the day with friends. We had breakfast and mimosas, he had booked manicures for me and my girlfriend. We then we all biked into the city for a Twins baseball game and finished off the day with dinner at my favourite restaurant! It was an absolutely perfect day!
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I tried on dresses in both Colorado and Minnesota. I started in Colorado and found “the dress” at Anna Be, however, since I was living in Minneapolis, decided to keep looking. I went to 3-4 other places and tried on at least another 20 dresses. I kept thinking about the one at Anna Be and then at my last appointment at Che Bella Boutique, I found it again! I loved that it was simple, beautiful lace, fitted but had a little flare. I also felt it was perfect for the beach!
Any DIY/Budget elements? Actually, I did a lot myself. I painted signs, handmade and designed my entire invite with the help of my family, designed the gift bag luggage tags, maraca tags and then what I didn’t make, my amazing wedding planner, Vari Avila from Be That Bride Events, did. It was very much a DIY wedding. I had so much fun putting ideas together and seeing the final product just the way I wanted. It was a lot of work, but well worth it!
Describe your wedding flowers: My flowers were beautiful but minimal. Because the venue with the beach and ocean were so spectacular, I didn’t feel that we needed much in the way of flowers. I wanted mostly white with a touch of coral. I LOVE gladiolus and wanted to incorporate them somehow and then we re-used all of the bridal bouquets on the tables.
Favourite detail of the day: My favourite planned detail was the maracas as the table place cards and the AMOR cups at the guestbook. My favourite unplanned details were the sea-turtle nest that hatched right next to the reception and 85 baby turtles running to the Ocean and the surprise fireworks over the golf-course.
Anything other details that help tell the story of your day: We had SO many amazing friends and family come all the way to Cabo and we were able to get a picture of the entire group immediately after the wedding. It is my favourite picture because it includes everyone that is so near and dear to us that were there that day.
