We’re chatting with South Carolina wedding photographer SOULSHINE PHOTOGRAPHY today to find more about this husband and wife team. Nicole and James are hybrid photographers with a style that is soft, true to colour and emotive. “The images film produces embodies the timeless elegance I love and desire for every human we serve.” They desire to go above the status quo in their relationships with their couples.
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A PHOTOGRAPHER? The simple desire to create combined with the need to hold moments still in frames. Each time a photo is beheld, I want it to feel like the moment it was created in. I desire to see humans captured in their most intimate and artistic form. History created in a click and held fast forever.
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR PATH TO GET THERE: Originally I went to college for a Physical Education degree, because growing up sports was all I knew. As I began having children, I saw their moments flashing at the speed of light and needed it held in a frame. I borrowed my mother’s old DSLR and began capturing. I was obsessed. I have slowly grown my business to fit the mold of what I want it to be over the past six years and hope strongly to continue to grow as an artist.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? Image poetry. Authentic. Emotive. Joyful. And intentional. True to colour and reminiscent of film style.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WEDDINGS? Weddings are the purest celebration of the beginning of a love story that there is. I love the raw emotions shared, the coming together of everyone near and dear to the couple in one place. The absolute freedom of joy in celebration of a new chapter of their lives. I love that each couple can plan and artistically design a day that represents who they are as individuals and as a couple together. Most of all I love the reminder of the love that God has shared with humanity through the coming together of two souls.
CAN YOU RECALL YOUR FAVOURITE WEDDING EXPERIENCE? I pretty much tear up at every wedding. Overall, I think I have to say, during a wedding in October 2021, the relationship shared between the bride and her mother and sister was and still is, unmatched. The bridal prep pictures were not just a moment for pictures, but truly a moment of deep connection, sisterhood, letting go of one season to enter a new one and pure joy. These women prayed, sang, laughed, cried. I was in awe of each click I made.
ASIDE FROM FAMILY AND FRIENDS, THREE THINGS YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT: My copy of God’s word, flowers, paper and pen to either journal words or draw.
WHERE WOULD WE FIND YOU ON A SUNDAY MORNING? My sweet dear church. Gathering with kindred hearts and worshipping my Savior.
HOW WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR IDEAL DAY OFF? Out in nature with my husband and babies. Exploring, working in the yard, you name it, just outside.
South Carolina wedding photographer SOULSHINE PHOTOGRAPHY is a valued member of our vendor collective. Working alongside her husband James, she is a hybrid photographer, mother, wife, daughter and friend based out of the Carolina’s. “Photographing and filming weddings has become a passion for me as I am truly blessed to serve so many couples and families. Art in any form has deeply moved my soul, but I was unsure of what medium to express my personal art through.
My couples feel at ease in front of my camera and truly get to enjoy their wedding day. Our style is soft, true to colour, emotive imagery. We desire to go above the status quo in each of our relationships with our couples, and therefore we take a limited number of weddings in order to serve well.” You can see more of their portfolio here.
