WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER? I’ve always loved photographing people. Wedding photography is a natural extension of that, as it is people coming together to celebrate some of the most meaningful moments of their lives.
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR PATH TO GET THERE: My original love was for drawing portraits of people in high school. I became interested in photography as a way to capture my own portraits that I could use for drawing inspiration. But as I sank more into it, photography ended up eclipsing my interest in drawing and became my main creative pursuit. I like to think that I’m painting the world with my lens!
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? My style is delicate and introspective. I draw a lot of inspiration from landscapes, light, and mood. I like to capture the feeling of something, whether it’s of a person, an event, or a place. Light is the greatest story teller there is, and I think of it as my collaborative voice for telling the story of how something feels.
SHARE YOUR FAVOURITE IMAGE WITH US AND TELL US WHY: I wish I could pick one! It’s like trying to pick a favourite ice cream flavour (hopeless).
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WEDDINGS? I love that weddings are a beautiful blend of emotions and aesthetics. They are people pulling together graceful events to express the beauty of the connection they feel with each other. It is intangible beauty meeting tangible beauty.
CAN YOU RECALL YOUR FAVOURITE WEDDING EXPERIENCE? Can it be a funny one? I was once photographing the couple’s first dance, and the DJ accidentally played the instrumental version of the song. His solution was to grab the mic and croon the lyrics himself. At first I thought it was a relative doing a special performance, but nope, it was the DJ “improvising”. It was unforgettable. Weddings are live events where anything can happen, and that’s the beauty of it. You have to accept the day for what it brings and for the stories it brings you, with all of their unexpected moments.
ASIDE FROM FAMILY & FRIENDS, THREE THINGS YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT: Travel, treats, light
WHERE WOULD WE FIND YOU ON A SUNDAY MORNING? Drinking coffee and reading the news.
HOW WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR IDEAL DAY OFF? Wandering through some beautiful place. Whether it’s a foreign city or a hike through the mountains, or roaming through the countryside. I love to be in spaces that connect me back to both the larger picture and my own internal center. That reconnection always fosters the greatest inspiration of heart and mind.
