With a style that's a mix of fine art and photojournalism Calgary wedding photographer MILTON PHOTOGRAPHY captures naturally beautiful moments as they happen. "I don’t force things, and the results are photographs as unique and beautiful as you are. It is an incredibly humbling job, to be trusted to document couples life long memories, and that is what we focus on most; timeless imagery that will evoke all of the emotions you and your family felt on the day.

I love that my work allows me to meet new people and capture life long memories. My super cute husband, Alan Carey, is my second shooter, film loader, and assistant. Together we travel all over the world capturing weddings. Between the two of us we’ve been to 32 countries, can get by in 4 languages, and own 43 pairs of shoes (okay, that one’s mostly me). We got married in May of 2017 in the middle of an olive grove in Greece, it was a super small wedding with only our immediate family and it was absolutely perfect. It is an honour to document the love couples share on such an important day.

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A PHOTOGRAPHER? Someone else told me I should!

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR PATH TO GET THERE: So I was working for a wedding catering company to pay for tuition at university. And the owner of the company told me one of the other girls was going to quit because she was going to photograph weddings and she could make $1000/day doing that. And I thought “that would pay for tuition faster”. And at the time I was in a photography course at the university and my prof took me aside after our first project and said “you have an eye for this, you should really consider doing something with it” So I posted an ad on the Canadian version of Craigs list and booked my first wedding. I charged $150 for it. I had never even photographed people before. And here I am 14 years later!

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? Always evolving? I never know how to answer this question, I guess I could say it’s timeless. I want my photos to be a true reflection of the people I photograph. I want the people to feel relaxed and I want the moments to be genuine. So it’s timeless but directed to get the right moments that feel candid.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WEDDINGS? The people, the emotions, the chaos, the hustle, the fact that no wedding is the same.

CAN YOU RECALL YOUR FAVOURITE WEDDING EXPERIENCE? I have so many. Probably every wedding. Every wedding I do I love so much about the people that I get to work with.

ASIDE FROM FAMILY & FRIENDS, THREE THINGS YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT? Dessert, sunshine, fresh fruits and vegetables.

WHERE WOULD WE FIND YOU ON A SUNDAY MORNING? Out of bed far earlier than I would like to be and with my children (1.5 and 3.5yrs old).

HOW WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR IDEAL DAY OFF? Lately I’ve  been gardening a lot, and hanging with the kids, going fun places with them.
