Queensland wedding photographer MALLORY SPARKLES most definitely lives up to her name – she’s a positive light on emails alone so I can only imagine how awesome she is in person! Based in the beautiful Sunshine Coast, Australia she adores captured all the sweet moments from your wedding day. Most of all though she thrives on getting to know her couples and hearing their stories in order to better document the day.
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A PHOTOGRAPHER? I was drawn to it at the age of 12. Seriously, at 12, I was like, Im going to do that one day. I loved the feels, the significance and the love that came with the day!
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR PATH TO GET THERE. I played with my $15 dollar camera all through growing up and in high school taking photos everywhere I went! At age 17 though, I went through a lot of hurt and tragedy which continued for a few years, and during that time I put down a lot of my favourite passions. Several years later, I traveled around and ended up in Australia where my love for photography kept resurfacing, I was re-ignited with it and have been pursuing it ever since!
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? Light, fun, natural + above all, whimsical
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WEDDINGS? The couples. The realness. The commitment. The emotions. And of course, the cake!
SHARE YOUR FAVOURITE IMAGE WITH US AND TELL US WHY. OH, that is so tough! I have so many favourite moments! I think I’ll lean on more recent memories for this one! My husband and I were shooting a wedding in Germany and it had been overcast and rainy all day, and while we were in their reception, long after all the outdoor portraits had been taken, the Bride and Groom and I just decided to spontaneously sneak outside for 5 minutes. When we did, we found ourselves with the prettiest calm and craziest cotton candy sky. They immediately reverted to the two cutest little 7 year olds and started running around, twirling, running and laughing. The feeling I got when they were doing this, like, this deep appreciation for moments and capturing them was so real and so tangible. It’s definitely a memory I won’t soon be forgetting!
CAN YOU RECALL YOUR FAVOURITE WEDDING EXPERIENCE? Again too many favourites! But I will say this! I’m SUCH a sucker for an emotional groom. If I see a groom start crying, or his bottom lip starts shaking as she’s walking down the aisle, its basically game over for me. The tears start rolling while I’m trying to keep it together to get my shots still! I just love it beyond words.
ASIDE FROM FAMILY & FRIENDS, THREE THINGS YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT? Popcorn, sunglasses and 80’s music.
WHERE WOULD WE FIND YOU ON A SUNDAY MORNING? If not getting ready for a wedding, you can find me in bed sleeping in as late as possible, drinking coffee in bed, or cuddled up in my pjs on the couch watching Disney movies! All of the very greatest things in the world.
HOW WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR IDEAL DAY OFF? Does it sound too cheesy to say spending time with my husband and eating? I love food. So basically heaven to me is getting to plan what I get to eat all day long.
