WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A PHOTOGRAPHER? I bought my first DSLR camera when I moved to London to document my travels around Europe. It was a personal hobby for years and then one day I was asked to shoot a friends wedding as a favour. I really enjoyed the experience and realised that if I could do it for a living I could finally leave my job in Finance/IT for something that felt more fulfilling and meaningful to me.
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR PATH TO GET THERE. I started off second shooting with other established wedding photographers. I also took six months off from work so that I could do an intensive photography course in London. Realising that London is expensive and I was eating a big hole into my savings, I went back to work in finance and essentially worked two jobs for two years before taking the leap into full time photography back in 2014.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? I mix photojournalism and fine art photography in a vibrant, timeless, elevated style.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WEDDINGS? You have the privilege of documenting one of the happiest, love-filled days of people’s lives, where everyone looks their best, is having a great time and indulging in food, drink, beauty and merriment. What’s not to love? I love that I am able to provide my clients with tangible wedding heirlooms that they and their loved ones can treasure for generations to come.
CAN YOU RECALL YOUR FAVOURITE WEDDING EXPERIENCE? It would have to have a been capturing a special Les Mis flash mob that was secretly planned by the Bride’s family to surprise her on her wedding night.
ASIDE FROM FAMILY & FRIENDS, THREE THINGS YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT? Camera, Dumplings, Coffee.
WHERE WOULD WE FIND YOU ON A SUNDAY MORNING? Chilling with my husband and dog at the local park, coffee in hand.
HOW WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR IDEAL DAY OFF? I would sleep in a little and then work out/meditate first thing in the morning. Go to brunch at my favourite spot, check out something that’s happening in NYC whether it be a one off event or a museum/art gallery and then end the day with dinner while watching a tv show or movie with my husband. Finally, I’d end with a little bit of reading before heading to bed.
