WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A PHOTOGRAPHER? I have loved photography since a very young age and started to regularly photograph since I was 11. I always found it fascinating to be able to preserve a moment in time; to express the way I see and feel the world through the art of photography.
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR PATH TO GET THERE. I was always asking my parents to give me a photo camera, but when I was young photography wasn’t as accessible as it is today. When I was 11 my parents sent me to London on a student exchange program. Other kids spent their pocket money on toys and sweets and I bought my first photo camera and a few rolls of film. I still have it. In the university my photography professor told me that I had a very special gift and let me use their cameras and dark room as much as I wanted to, he secretly sent my pictures to an international competition which I won at the age of 16. I continued my journey as a landscape photographer until about 6 years ago when my friends asked me to photograph their wedding. It was such a positive experience and I loved the idea of capturing meaningful and beautiful memories for people. I started booking more and more weddings, won a number of major international awards and have been noticed by Fujifilm who made me their global ambassador and gave me an opportunity to take my photographic journey to the next level.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? Refined and elegant. I love capturing images that have a lot of authenticity with a hint of curated artistry. I love black and white photography. There is something magical and timeless about it.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WEDDINGS? It gives me so much happiness to see that in between everything that is going on in our world there is still so much love. Between partners, parents, grandparents, children, friends. It just warms up my heart and inspires my work. I love leaving people beautiful memories shared with their loved ones. Moments that will last forever.
SHARE YOUR FAVOURITE IMAGE WITH US AND TELL US WHY. I captured this image in Sydney while photographing an elopement of a German couple. Heavy rain before the ceremony worked in our advantage and I was able to incorporate reflections in our photoshoot. As the bride was walking towards the groom I saw this moment and was so lucky to be able to capture it. I love capturing classic images for my couples and compliment them with artistic shots.
CAN YOU RECALL YOUR FAVOURITE WEDDING EXPERIENCE? I love every wedding and every couple that I photograph. There is always something unique about each experience. One of my favourites must be a recent Vietnamese-Australian wedding in Sydney. The couple had a very sophisticated wedding with a lot of beautiful details and also incorporated Vietnamese traditions into their celebration. We also planned a joke for their first look where groom’s brother pretended to be his bride. I don’t remember laughing so much in my life. Overall the day was full of happy tears and joy. The love that the couple shared for each other and their family and friends was contagious.
ASIDE FROM FAMILY & FRIENDS, THREE THINGS YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT? Travel, photography and opportunity to learn more about our world.
WHERE WOULD WE FIND YOU ON A SUNDAY MORNING? Taking landscape photos or reading a good book.
HOW WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR IDEAL DAY OFF? Exploring a National Park or hiking in the Mountains whilst taking photos.
