Sophie Epton

Hey y'all! My name is Sophie and I'm a fine art wedding and portrait photographer based out of Austin, Texas. Originally from Colorado (I'm a mountain girl at heart!) my parents gave me a 35mm film camera when I was in high school and I was in love instantly.  Since then, photography has become my calling and I've never looked back.

Together with my husband, Jordan, I travel the world to photograph life's most meaningful moments; from Austin to Italy, NYC to Morocco and beyond, I find so much joy in creating beautiful, luminous images that capture the love and emotion surrounding a wedding day. Jordan and I have been shooting together since 2011 and married since 2013, and we have such a soft spot for romantic, unique, joy-filled weddings and the love that we get to capture. We feel so lucky to call this passion our job, and adore creating long-lasting bonds with clients!

When I'm not photographing you can find me exploring the outdoors and new cities with Jordan, scoping out the best new spot for dessert, painting large canvases, booking our next travel or hanging with our fur babies.

Interview

IF I HAVE A FREE SUNDAY I WOULD SPEND IT… with my husband, Jordan Epton, hiking somewhere beautiful!

MY MOST MEMORABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE WAS… either living in Florence, Italy as a college student or my most recent international trip to Morocco- it was so intoxicating and beautiful, it has left me haunted in the best way since the day I left!

THE COUNTRY I MOST WANT TO VISIT IS… it’s a tie between Japan and South Africa, I am so fascinated with the culture and beauty in Japan, and I also really want to experience an African safari and see all these amazing animals in the wild with my own two eyes.

WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT MY JOB IS… making wonderful connections with clients who become lifelong friends, and the feeling you get when you nailed a really great shot.

IF I DIDN’T DO THIS FOR A JOB I WOULD BE… an Interior Designer.

IF I COULD GIVE NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE IT WOULD BE… time everything around light! Good light will make a photo, iffy light will break a photo- there’s a huge difference in lighting throughout the day, and it’s good to lean on your photographer to create a great timeline with available light in mind.

I LOVE WHERE I LIVE BECAUSE… Austin is such an incredible city! We have it all- the city, nature, incredible music, great food, sunshine, nice weather (besides Summer!) and the people are some of the nicest I’ve ever met. Plus, it’s such a wedding destination capital now and we have some of the most creative wedding vendors around to collaborate with.

IF I COULD LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD IT WOULD BE… California or Europe, I am so inspired by the beauty and culture of both!

MY FAVOURITE MOVIE IS? Sixteen Candles, or really any of the John Hughes movies from the 1980’s. Classics.

MOST MEMORABLE MEAL I’VE EVER EATEN WAS… this tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Buenos Aires during my honeymoon called Aramburu. It was 12 courses of the most amazing, creative, delicious food and I won’t ever forget it.

THE PETS I OWN ARE… we have two boy cats, Bug and Arrow. They are the sweetest and the best of friends.. I can’t imagine life without the joy of having animals in it!
