Charleston Photographer

I am a visual storyteller with an affinity for color, light, emotion, and detail.

I was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina and am proud to still call this vibrant city home. Although my wanderlust has taken me from sea to shining sea and across continents with my camera in tow, I still maintain that the majesty and charm of the South Carolina Lowcountry is truly difficult to top!

I first fell in love with the art of photography as a student in the Documentary Studies Program at Duke University, where I spent many long, memorable hours in the darkroom.

Since then, my passion has become a beloved career. I am humbled by the joys of my job and the way my clients invite me to be a part of such beautiful life milestones. I would be delighted to get to know more about you and your love story!"

Interview

IF I HAVE A FREE SUNDAY I WOULD SPEND IT… exploring a new place with friends and indulging in several unreasonably long meals along the way.

MY MOST MEMORABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE WAS… I spent New Year’s Eve photographing a traditional Moroccan wedding celebration in a Casablanca Kasbah. In the week leading up to the wedding, I had an unforgettable time visiting the Sahara desert and Marrakesh, where the textures, colours, and chaos were a photographer’s dream.

WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT MY JOB IS… being granted such close proximity to exhilarating, personally monumental moments in people’s lives.

IF I DIDN’T DO THIS FOR A JOB I WOULD BE… In my dream life? An astronaut or a Hollywood actress. In this life? A writer, or, as I was for seven years, an English teacher. I love a good story and like to think that wedding photography is its own form of storytelling.

IF I COULD GIVE NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE IT WOULD BE…do this your way! (Except, of course, when it comes to the photographer’s recommendations about lighting ;)

I LOVE WHERE I LIVE BECAUSE… I grew up in my current hometown, Charleston, South Carolina, so for me, every street corner bears a memory. Of course, Charleston is objectively wonderful; she has something for everyone to love! Her streets are charming and incredibly photogenic, her food is fabulous, and her marshes, beaches, and mossy trees are the stuff of poetry. Swoon. It is no wonder people love to get married here!

IF I COULD LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD IT WOULD BE… I love travel more than anything, but I always feel incredibly at home when I return to Charleston. My roots are here, and so are my family’s. I don’t know that I would want to trade that sense of sanctuary for a life anywhere else… except, perhaps, a lifelong stay in a suite at The Ritz, Paris!

MY FAVOURITE MOVIE IS? Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet - Not a feelgood love story, but what can I say? I love the 90s and young Leo!

MOST MEMORABLE MEAL I’VE EVER EATEN WAS… while in Mexico with my mother as a teen, we followed our empty bellies to a beachside eatery where we clumsily ordered the catch of the day through a series of clueless hand gestures and the help of our taxi driver. “Si, si, si,” we nodded hopefully and hungrily. When the meal arrived to our picnic table, it was fried with the head on, staring at us menacingly. The sight was terrifying, but the fish was ultimately delicious. That day I learned several lessons about fear (it’s a liar), food (fried is usually better), and finding yourself in unfamiliar territory (it usually makes for wonderful memories).
