CALL IT A CLAN, CALL IT A NETWORK, CALL IT A TRIBE, CALL IT A FAMILY: WHATEVER YOU CALL IT, WHOEVER YOU ARE, YOU NEED ONE.” —Jane Howard

Catherine Band

I’m Catherine Band, a wedding photographer based in Boston MA, with a love for all things weddings, architecture and food. Boston is the perfect place to be a wedding photographer: there are distinct and beautiful seasons, a rich local history with incredible architecture, and wonderful clients that appreciate the art of film photography. Many of my favourite local weddings venues are historic estates and Boston hotels. It’s incredible to incorporate that history and architecture into my work.

I use film photography as much as possible on wedding days when I have natural light available. I love how my film photographs look like paintings. Wedding photography can be an art, and film forces me to slow down and be artistic. I live in Salem MA with my boyfriend, who second shoots and film rolls for me, and my adorable Dalmatian, Penny. When I’m not photography weddings, we love traveling, dining out, cooking, and working out. We don’t sit still much, but when we do, we’re watching Parks & Recreation on Netflix.

“On our wedding day, Catherine met all our expectations. She operated like a well oiled machine! She was patient with our families as they congregated a bit slow for family portraits. She even handled young children like a professional, singing to them to help calm them down during temper tantrums!”
Andi & John
Joyful.
Vibrant.
Effortless.
If I have a free Sunday I would spend it …
exploring a new place. I love seeing new towns, trying the local coffee shop, going for a walk and sampling a few different restaurants. I moved to Boston eight years ago, and have been very inspired by the New England architecture whenever I travel. I’m also a foodie, so dining out is a big part of how I explore a place.
My most memorable travel experience was …
my husband and I went to Marrakech in 2018. I’ve traveled to a lot of European countries, so Marrakech was a big culture shock. We loved the food, textiles and architecture in Morocco.
What I love most about my job is …
being a wedding photography is so gratifying. The ability to capture moments that will become family heirlooms is so special. I treasure the old photos I have of my family and feel so special I get to create that for someone else.
I love where I live because …
I’ve visited most of the US and Boston is the best for its rich history, old architecture, seafood, and the hardworking, salt-of-the-earth people. I also love the distinct seasons. The summer and fall here are unbeatable, and I love the winter for skiing and the snow!
My favourite movie is …
I love all of the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter movies!
The pets I own are …
My Dalmatian, Penny, is my life! She is such a princess. She sleeps until noon, hates going for walks, and is such a snuggler. I got her when she was a puppy and I was in college, so we’ve spent 8 sweet years together.
