Using traditional Greco-Roman mythology and historical texts, CARMEN SANTORELLI worked with designer & florist SISTI & CO. to create an ode to this ancient era. The shoot takes place at the Temple of Diana, in the Jardins de la Fontaine, in Nimes, France and features a gorgeous gown with a Grecian feel to it by CAROL HANNAH, paired with a crown and veil by GIBSON BESPOKE.
Kim from SISTI & CO. tells us more about the shoot: "Even though the temple was partially burned down in the 1600s, it is still hopelessly romantic, overrun with gardens and original stone work. This site will truly take your breath away. My design vision was focused on bringing to life a Modern Goddess (in this case, a Roman one) and showcasing her incredible strength, The name Diana is cognate to the Latin words dium ("sky") and dius ("daylight"). With this in mind, capturing our goddess in the early morning when the young daylight could really showcase our model was paramount. The photos of the sun peeking through the trees and illuminating her golden hair are truly ethereal. Our team could not have been more connected to our surroundings that day. It was at this point that I realised that my dream was no longer living only in the confines of my mind, but that our Goddess had stepped out into the world – refined, strong, graceful, and utterly extraordinary."
"Call her a heroine, nymph, mother earth, the creator, siren, deity, or princess, a goddess is within all females. For years my dreams were obsessed with creating her, full of femininity and grace, but living in a modern world. A goddess does not have be relegated to the pages of ancient tomes, she can be brought into the present and still command the respect of others. As women we all identify with some part of a goddess. “The source of true feminine beauty comes from deep inside a woman’s being and is manifested when our thoughts, words, actions and emotions are in perfect harmony with our purpose as a woman” (Megan Gahan).
