Booking Jake Thomas for their wedding was a non-negotiable for Julie & David. Although the couple live in Melbourne, they wanted to come back to New Zealand to get married being that's where all their friends and family live, and where they grew up. We wanted to go for a modern/vintage look. I wanted to capture our personalities and style. We liked the mismatched look with different ties and the socks. We chose them ourselves and tried to match it to each groomsmen's personalities. I wanted the girls to chose their own dresses, because I wanted them to feel good and comfortable in the dresses they know they suit. Naomi from Leaf & Honey created the prettiest of florals for them, love the assortment of colours in the bouquet!!

Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I had looked on pinterest for weeks for the perfect dress. I couldn't find the one I liked in any stores. I knew what I wanted but couldn't find it in any of the shops. I took a risk and got it made at a local Melbourne dressmaker. She did a great job. I wanted elements of feminine lace, but also wanted a puffy dress, as I knew this was my only opportunity to wear a puffy white dress as an adult!

Any DIY/Budget elements? I collected the jars that were used on each table for flowers. Cassels also provided a few vintage looking ones. On each table was a framed photo of our favourite location that we had visited together. My husband, David, who has always been interested in photography, took these photos. We wanted to use locations instead of having table numbers so it was personalised.

Describe your wedding flowers: Amazing! I loved them so much. Naomi, from Leaf and Honey, was such a pleasure to work with. She listened to exactly what I wanted and created something amazing, even better than what I had ever envisioned. I even asked for a floral crown last minute and she did not mind at all. Naomi also decorated our pergola where our ceremony was. It was a beautiful backdrop.

Favourite detail of the day: My floral crown! My red lips that I decided on last minute. David's outfit and his tie!

What advise would you give out to a couple planning their wedding? Pick a couple of things that are important to you and splurge! Don't stress over a few dollars to get something that you REALLY want. You will not regret it.

Most memorable moment? Sneaking out in the middle of our main course to take amazing photos in the open meadows that Jake found. Looked like something out of a fairy tale!

Anything other details that help tell the story of your day: My mum decided to wear her traditional Korean dress, as this is what mothers wear on very special occasions. She looked amazing. My grandmother that flew over all the way from Korea did the same.
