Captured by Magnolia Rouge Vendor ELIZABETH LANIER PHOTOGRAPHY Carlyn and Spencer’s winter wedding at MONTAGE PALMETTO BLUFF was planned with timeless elegance by MARIÉE AMI. The design and florals by EDGE DESIGN GROUP transformed the Southern venue into a winter wonderland, while Carlyn stunned in a lace MONIQUE LHUILLIER gown that was as romantic as it was refined.
The Inspiration
For Carlyn, the holiday season has always been her favorite time of year. Dreaming of a Christmas wedding since she was young, she envisioned an event that felt festive yet sophisticated—a winter wonderland with cozy touches, elegant design, and subtle nods to the season. Rather than leaning into overtly Christmas décor, the couple embraced a style that was timeless and warm, bringing the magic of the holidays into a celebration that felt entirely their own.

The Location
PALMETTO BLUFF was already a beloved destination for Carlyn’s family, who had vacationed there for years. It was also the location of the first family trip Spencer joined, making it a meaningful choice from the very beginning. The property’s natural beauty—the moss-draped oaks, charming waterfront views, and warm Southern atmosphere—created the perfect backdrop. During the holiday season, its quiet, cozy charm felt even more magical, sealing it as the couple’s dream venue.
How They Met
Carlyn and Spencer’s story began in high school when Carlyn transferred to a new school in Waco, Texas. The two became close friends, study partners, and even dated briefly their senior year, sharing meaningful milestones like prom and a school trip to London. Though they parted ways before graduation, fate reunited them at Southern Methodist University, where their friendship deepened again. When the pandemic brought them back to their hometown, their connection grew stronger, eventually blossoming into a lasting love.

The Proposal
On their third anniversary, Spencer planned a thoughtful proposal that honored their history together. The day began in Waco, revisiting meaningful spots from their early relationship, before ending with a rooftop proposal in Dallas. Surrounded by candles, flowers, and photos of their journey, Carlyn said yes. Both of their families soon joined the celebration, making the moment even more unforgettable.
The Dress
Carlyn knew she wanted a long-sleeved gown with lace, and MONIQUE LHUILLIER quickly captured her imagination. At the flagship store in New York, she fell in love with a gown whose intricate lace mirrored the trees later used in their reception design. The dress featured a removable jacket, offering long sleeves for the ceremony and a strapless silhouette for the reception. It was the perfect blend of tradition and versatility, made even more meaningful by the memories of shopping with her parents and sister.

The Florals
Her bouquet was a delicate arrangement of winter whites: ranunculus, lisianthus, and garden roses accented with soft greenery. For the reception, EDGE GROUP DESIGN brought the winter wonderland vision to life with hand-crafted trees and a stacked wood backdrop behind the band. The effect was enchanting—equal parts elegant and cozy.
Favorite Details
One of the most emotional moments was the couple’s private “first touch.” Choosing not to see each other until the aisle, Carlyn and Spencer instead held hands on either side of the chapel door, exchanging vows in a quiet, intimate pause before the ceremony.
For design, the transformation of the reception space left a lasting impression. The trees, glowing candlelight, and layered details created the cozy, inviting winter atmosphere Carlyn had always dreamed of.

They prioritized a ceremony that reflected their beliefs and cherished every intentional moment together amidst the celebration.

The Most Important Elements
For both Carlyn and Spencer, what mattered most was staying grounded in their faith and fully present with each other throughout the day. They prioritized a ceremony that reflected their beliefs and cherished every intentional moment together amidst the celebration.
The Celebration
Beyond the ceremony and reception, the weekend overflowed with memorable touches: arriving by boat to their rehearsal dinner, an impromptu late-night gathering at the property’s speakeasy, and trolleys that transported guests around the grounds, adding charm and ease. An after-party with a fresh energy allowed guests to dance late into the night, extending the joy.

The Honeymoon
Following their wintry Southern wedding, Carlyn and Spencer jetted off to Bora Bora. Staying in an overwater bungalow at the Four Seasons, they soaked in turquoise waters and mountain views, balancing adventure—jet skiing, snorkeling, ATV tours—with slow mornings and spa days. The tropical serenity offered a perfect contrast to their festive winter celebration.
This Palmetto Bluff wedding beautifully wove together family history, seasonal inspiration, and timeless romance.
