A Texas Celebration Defined by Culture and Connection

A heartfelt wedding celebration in Texas brought together rich cultural traditions, meaningful family moments, and a strong sense of community, creating a multi-day event that beautifully honoured both heritage and modern romance.

Grace and Raphael’s wedding at CHÂTEAU JOLI was a deeply meaningful celebration of heritage, family, and enduring connection. Beautifully captured by Magnolia Rouge vendor ESTHER MAKAU, the multi-day event unfolded with intention, blending Eritrean tradition with contemporary elegance in a way that felt both personal and expansive.

A Love Story Years in the Making

Their story began in childhood, where Grace and Raphael first met at Sunday school. Their families shared a close-knit community, spending time together in simple, joyful ways, from birthday celebrations to ice cream outings. At the time, their connection was one of familiarity rather than romance.

Years later, a chance encounter at the State Fair of Texas brought them back into each other’s lives. Among thousands of people, Raphael spotted Grace, and that unexpected moment quickly revealed a connection that had quietly been there all along. From there, their relationship unfolded naturally, eventually leading to a romantic proposal in Positano, Italy.

A Celebration Rooted in Family and Tradition

Their wedding was designed as a multi-day celebration, allowing space to honour both their relationship and their cultural heritage. The weekend began with an intimate rehearsal dinner at Nylo Dallas Plano Hotel, setting a warm and welcoming tone for the days ahead.

At the heart of the celebration was a traditional ceremony held at Gospel Light Eritrean Church, attended by more than 500 guests. It was a powerful reflection of the importance of community and shared faith, bringing together family and loved ones in a meaningful and memorable way.

One of the most touching moments came as Grace’s father, Pastor Solomon Beraki, officiated the ceremony. Having led countless weddings throughout his life, it held special significance to stand in that role for his own daughter. Walking her down the aisle and witnessing her marry someone deeply connected to their community created a full circle moment that carried profound emotional weight.

A Reception Filled with Heart

Following the traditional ceremony, the celebration continued with a black-tie reception at CHÂTEAU JOLI. The setting offered an elegant backdrop for an evening that felt both refined and deeply personal.

With both families playing a central role in bringing the reception together, the atmosphere felt warm, collaborative, and reflective of the community that surrounds the couple. Florals by ELISE WOODS DESIGN added softness and texture to the space, complementing the overall sense of understated elegance.

Her designs brought a deeply personal layer to the celebration, allowing her to express not only her style, but also her identity and vision.

Fashion as Personal Expression

Grace, a talented fashion designer, approached her bridal wardrobe with intention and creativity. Throughout the celebration, she wore three distinct looks, each thoughtfully designed to reflect different moments of the day while remaining cohesive in their sense of romance and artistry.

A Celebration of Culture and Connection

Grace and Raphael’s wedding was a true reflection of love shaped by heritage and community. By blending Eritrean traditions with a modern American setting, they created a celebration that felt both rooted and forward-looking.

More than anything, their wedding honoured where they come from while embracing the life they are building together. It was a gathering defined not only by beauty, but by meaning, connection, and the people who have shaped their journey.

Captured with care by ESTHER MAKAU, it stands as a reminder that the most powerful celebrations are those that reflect the depth of a couple’s story.
