A sentimental Monet-Inspired Wedding Day in Seattle

From start to finish Amy and Frank's Monet-inspired wedding day captured by Seattle wedding photographer JANET LIN was filled with sentimental and intentional details. Most unique was the way the couple found beautiful yet subtle ways to pay tribute to their Chinese culture whilst maintaining a fine-art aesthetic inspired by impressionist artwork. With an intimate guest list of about 60 of their closest friends and family, they wanted the first impression of their wedding day to be a true representation of the experience they had in store for their favourite people. With a beautifully designed invitation suite that married their love of impressionism with cultural elements, they did just that. Every element of their paper products were intentionally curated and held special meaning to the couple. The suite featured one of their favourite works from Monet as an envelope liner. They designed the oval floral crest (which was also used in their welcome sign.) The crest includes each of their birth flowers (cosmos and snowdrops) and their last names in Chinese in the path of the oval to symbolise their union and the joining of their families.

In Chinese culture, red symbolises fortune and luck and is a common colour in traditional Chinese weddings. Amy and Frank wanted to include red as a nod to their heritage without detracting from the romantic, fine-art colour palette so to do this they thought outside the box and Amy selected shoes with red insoles, and Frank wore a necktie with subtle pops of red.

Another nod to their love for impressionist artists, the seating chart featured Van Gogh's Almond Blossoms, one of the couple's favourite pieces. In addition to being a painting that they love, almond blossoms also symbolise true love! The seating chart was also to honour their shared love of reading, featuring bookmarks for each of their guests, topped with vellum butterfly seat numbers. In Chinese culture, butterflies also represent eternal love, happiness, and good fortune.

During the reception, the table numbers featured both their favourite quotes about love from literary works and Chinese blessings for a happy marriage. Amy and Frank worked with Seattle chef Aaron Tekulve to develop a six-course tasting menu that spanned the duration of three incredible hours. The menu drew inspiration from seasonal locally sourced ingredients of the Pacific Northwest and traditional Chinese cuisine.

For their wedding cake, Lisa of ‘ALEWA BAKESHOP worked closely with the couple to create a work of art that would represent them as a couple and perfectly encapsulate their wedding day aesthetic. Her beautiful creation featured sugar flowers reflecting the same florals used on the wedding day, and also lilies to culturally signify good fortune and happiness.

Every detail was meaningfully selected with personal or cultural significance to the couple and their families. Even on a rainy day in the heart of the Pacific Northwest evergreens, Amy & Frank successfully created a wedding day and beautiful experience for their guests with a fine-art feel and cultural relevance.
