A Heartfelt Louisiana Wedding Filled with Family and Tradition

Open fields, heartfelt traditions, and Southern hospitality set the scene for this joyful Louisiana celebration, where family history, meaningful heirlooms, and a welcoming farm setting created a wedding that felt deeply personal, beautifully relaxed, and full of warmth.

Some weddings feel especially meaningful because they are rooted in a place that already holds years of memories. For Shelby and Chooch, hosting their wedding at Shelby’s childhood home in Keachi, Louisiana created exactly that kind of atmosphere — a celebration that felt both elegant and deeply personal. Captured beautifully by Magnolia Rouge Vendor MICAHLA VAUGHN and thoughtfully planned by HANNAH LAMB EVENTS, the day unfolded with a seamless blend of Southern charm, heartfelt tradition, and joyful celebration. Florals by BRIANNA BELTON DESIGN added soft romance to the natural farm setting, complementing the relaxed elegance the couple envisioned.

A Love That Began with Friendship

Shelby and Chooch first met through mutual friends, quickly discovering a shared love for good food, meaningful conversation, and time spent with the people who matter most. What began as an easy friendship soon grew into something deeper — a relationship grounded in laughter, family, and a strong appreciation for tradition. From the beginning, everything between them felt natural and genuine, setting the tone for a wedding day that would celebrate not just their love, but the community of family and friends who had supported them along the way.

A Surprise Proposal with Family History

Chooch’s proposal was designed to be a complete surprise — and he chose a quiet Tuesday evening after work to make it happen. After asking Shelby’s father for his blessing, he unknowingly stepped into a beautiful piece of family history. Shelby’s grandmother offered him her great-grandmother’s engagement ring, a nearly 100-year-old heirloom filled with generations of love.

That evening, Shelby arrived home to find their hallway lined with rose petals and candlelight. Around the corner, Chooch stood waiting beneath a hand-painted sign that read “Will you marry me?” Shelby said yes so quickly he barely had time to get fully down on one knee. The surprises didn’t end there — he had secretly arranged for their closest family and friends to gather at the same restaurant where they’d had their first date, turning the evening into an unforgettable celebration.

A Wedding at Home

Choosing Shelby’s childhood home as the reception venue felt like the most authentic way for the couple to celebrate. The property’s open fields, wooded edges, and true Southern farm setting created a naturally beautiful backdrop while still allowing space to design an elevated yet welcoming celebration. More than anything, Shelby and Chooch wanted their guests to feel like they were being welcomed into their home — comfortable, cared for, and ready to celebrate together.

A Calm and Joyful Start

The morning of the wedding began in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere. Shelby spent the morning surrounded by close friends and family, sharing laughter, music, and quiet moments of reflection. Getting ready together created a sense of calm before the celebration began — a meaningful start to a day that would be filled with love from beginning to end.

A Quiet Moment Before the Ceremony

Shelby and Chooch chose to share a first look, and it quickly became one of the most memorable moments of the day. The private moment allowed them to slow down and take in the significance of the day together before the festivities began. Even with the first look, the moment Shelby walked down the aisle still carried all the emotion and magic they had imagined.

Classic Style with a Southern Twist

Shelby chose a timeless gown by JUSTIN ALEXANDER, found at HAPPILY EVER AFTER, which perfectly complemented the classic elegance of the day. Later in the evening she changed into a playful short dress by Helsi paired with Tecovas boots — a look that felt both fun and unmistakably Southern.

The bridesmaids wore soft eucalyptus gowns from AZAZIE, beautifully complementing the natural color palette. Chooch and his groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos paired with boots, while Chooch’s Rod Patrick boots — chosen during a memorable trip to Fort Worth — added a personal detail to his wedding day look.

Soft Florals Inspired by the Landscape

Florals by BRIANNA BELTON DESIGN leaned into the natural beauty of the property, incorporating lush greenery with soft, organic blooms and subtle blush tones. The arrangements enhanced the surroundings without overwhelming them, bringing a sense of romantic softness to both the ceremony and reception spaces.

A Meaningful Church Ceremony

The ceremony took place at Keachi Presbyterian Church, a space filled with timeless character and significance. Meaningful readings, music, and personal touches made the service feel deeply heartfelt, while the church’s historic charm created an intimate setting for family and friends to witness the couple’s vows.

Southern Hospitality at Cocktail Hour

Following the ceremony, guests were welcomed with classic Southern flavors and relaxed hospitality. Mint juleps, beer, and wine were served alongside passed appetizers including mini meat pies, boudin-wrapped wontons with cracklings and Steen’s syrup, and beef tenderloin crostini with caramelized onions — the perfect introduction to the evening ahead.

A Celebration Full of Energy

Entertainment played a central role in the celebration. The PARADE ROUTE Band kept the dance floor full all evening, while a harpist provided elegant music during the ceremony and Hailey Brooke set the tone for happy hour.

The reception took place back at Shelby’s childhood home, where guests enjoyed Southern favorites from Maison Louisiane including brisket, chicken and waffles, gumbo, grits, and a full macaroni and cheese station. Espresso martinis from a coffee bar, late-night sliders and fries, and playful touches like CO₂ guns on the dance floor kept the energy high well into the evening.

By the end of the night, the farm had transformed into a celebration filled with laughter, music, and the warmth of family — exactly the kind of joyful, welcoming gathering Shelby and Chooch had hoped to create. Through MICAHLA VAUGHN’S lens, every heartfelt moment and lively dance captured the spirit of a wedding that felt truly at home.
