Travel images allow us all to live vicariously through the lucky people who get to go to these beautiful locales and document them and whilst I’ve been very lucky to do a lot of travel in my life, it’s simply never enough so I’m viewing these images of Miami and Key West by P. THIEN PHOTOGRAPHY with a mixture of pure envy and admiration! And wishing upon wishing that I could spend my life exploring the world!
Phung shares her story about her time in Miami with us, “Adam and I spend our free time traveling the world, it’s what we love to do. However, with all our time spent overseas, we forget about the wonderful places we have at home. We decided this year to go on a short trip to Miami and Key West. For as many years as I’ve been alive, I have yet to visit the Southernmost Point of the United States and rarely frequent our Panhandle.
Our trip started with a few days in Miami. It was hot and humid, but that didn’t stop us from fully enjoying our holiday. We lounged on the beautiful shores of South Beach where the sand is white, the sky is blue, and the water–AMAZING. Days spent basking in clear ocean water is what we live for. But knowing us, we couldn’t lounge around for too long, we had to explore. Since we only had two days, we chose to visit Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park and Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. At Bill Baggs we took a nice stroll along the water and made our way to the beautiful light house. At Vizcaya we couldn’t help but be in awe of the gorgeous grounds and lovely interior. I took roll after roll of film, and it was well worth it.
After a few days, we left Miami and made the four hour drive down to Key West. In Key West we spent our days sailing and walking the charming streets of Old Town. We did everything from parasailing to paddle boarding; we even did a Kayaking Eco Tour of the Mangroves. In the evenings, we made sure to stay on the boat long enough to watch the sun blanket the blue waters of the Gulf Coast and disappear behind the horizon.
On our last day in Key West, we were told by the locals that a storm was supposed to hit. We left on a Monday and by Tuesday the Governor of Florida called for a State of Emergency. Hurricane Irma came through Key West later that week in full force, wiping out the entire area. It was heartbreaking to be a witness to this and knowing that recovery efforts will take months if not years. Our hearts go out to the residents of Florida for all they’ve endure and we wish them a speedy recovery. If this teaches us anything, it’s to never take for granted what we have in the here and now.”
