The creative goal for this shoot by SARA CORONA, styled by PREMA was to find a resting point between the old and the new – styling antique, old world elements and details with a fresh, modern simplicity. Juicy, rich and textural, they incorporated seasonal fruit with garden roses grown at a local Colorado farm into the still-life compositions.
“For our bride we were drawn to two gowns from EMMA & GRACE BRIDAL that would appeal to a traditional bride looking for a touch of something different. Although both gowns have a classic ballroom shape, the materials and tones of these dresses make them feel very au courant. Forgoing elaborate hair styling and makeup, we allowed our model’s natural beauty and femininity shine. We were drawn to our model Ilana because of her striking Eastern European looks but also because she carries herself with the grace and confidence of thirty year old woman who has been dancing seriously for years. Her body is not rail thin, but strong and soft, and perhaps would feel more accessible to the modern bride looking to a blog for inspiration.
Rather than creating an elaborate tabletop scene, we focused on crafting simple still-lifes and vignettes that might be used as a jumping off point for inspiration in terms of colour and texture. Antique silver vessels with an aged patina hold seasonal flowers designed with an airy lightness as the last of the spring mock orange meets with the earliest summer dahlias. Punches of richer mauves and dusty dark pinks add dimension to a sweet blushy bridal palette and steely raw geometric diamond jewellery from a local Denver designer add an earthy modern edge.
Eschewing trends we hope in these images to create a mood of timelessness, grace and beauty that will inspire today’s bride to look both to the past and the future.“
