A couple of self confessed ‘hopeless romantics’, when Susan and David were first engaged they talked about flying off somewhere exotic and eloping… perhaps scuba diving with turtles, or on an African safari. A romantic adventure. After about two months of planning they realised that their large and close group of family and friends would never let them get away with it, so plans swung back to searching for somewhere that was special to them and that they could share with everyone. It was then that Aspen was decided upon, since it was where they took their first trip together and had since returned several times. It offered them the intimate, beautiful and small town feeling that they were looking for. Some non-negotiables for the day included the color yellow, lilies of the valley, animals had to play some role in the day, and it had to be in the spring.
As you can see from the photos below by Kate Holstein, they covered all these things and more! With the girls from Bluebird Productions at the helm, planning a destination wedding in a relatively short timeframe was made easy and seamless.
“Once we started working with everyone, everything just fell into place so perfectly! We decided to get married in St. Mary’s Church in Aspen and hold the reception down valley at the Roaring Fork Club. As I mentioned before we really wanted to incorporate the color yellow with yellow ties and bowties. I worked tirelessly with Carolyn on all my flower selections! She was truly wonderful! I wanted very romantic, spring and light colored flowers! I absolutely had to have lilies of the valley for my bouquet and wanted my sisters/bridesmaids to carry bouquets that looked like they had been picked from the mountain side. I was in awe at how spectacular they looked when I first walked in to the ceremony and followed by the reception!
We also really wanted to incorporate animals somewhere in our wedding! David and I love traveling and visiting places with exotic animals! We adore all living creatures, particularly turtles, which is where the inspiration for our centerpieces/table numbers came from.
Overall we wanted the wedding to be us. We wanted all of our friends to have the best weekend, to feel relaxed! The day was perfect, a dream really! We spent the night dancing and singing surrounded by all our most beloved friends and family!! The best part… I ended up with the greatest guy in the world!”
